Section 1A of the road project between Bidbid and Sur underway in Oman is being built by a joint venture of the Italian construction company Astaldi and the Turkish contractor Özkar İnşaat.
The 75 km-long Section 1B is being carried out by a joint venture of STFA and the UAE-based Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG). In both stages of this giant project, the concrete requirement is met by stationary plants produced by MEKA: a 100 m³ (MB-100W Stationary Concrete Batching Plant) and a 120 m³ (MB-120W Stationary Concrete Batching Plant).
The road between Bidbid and Sur in Oman holds an important place for Oman's economy and social life. With the project launched by the Omani government as a result of the existing road being inadequate, the quality and capacity of the road are being increased. In the project, valued at 117 million Omani rials (approximately 325 million dollars), the two-lane, two-way road will be turned into a four-lane dual carriageway. In addition, nine junctions, two underpasses, two overpasses, retaining walls and concrete culverts will also be built within the scope of the project. On different sections of the project, which was planned for completion in 2014, two Turkish contractor firms are working together with their foreign partners.
Astaldi – Özkar JV
The first stage of the road project between Bidbid and Sur — the 40 km section called 1A — will be completed by the Astaldi–Özkar JV partnership. Astaldi, with which Özkar, one of Turkey's leading companies, has partnered, has been operating for 80 years in the design and construction of large-scale engineering works in Italy and international markets.
STFA–HLG JV (Sezai Türkeş Fevzi Akkaya – Al Habtoor Leighton Group)
The 75 km section of the project called 1B will be completed by the STFA–HLG partnership. This stage also includes a 50 km service road, 9 junctions, associated retaining walls and 2 underpasses. And the plant of choice made by these companies — each of which delivers world-class projects in its own field — to meet the concrete requirement of the road project in Oman is MEKA.
