The Use of MEKA Crushing-Screening Equipment in Mineral Processing Is Spreading

MEKA was chosen for the crushers, feeders, screens and conveyor systems to be used in the state-of-the-art Zinc Smelting Plant with a budget of $102 million that has begun to be built in Siirt with a Turkish-Qatari partnership. MEKA equipment, used with confidence by aggregate producers and mining companies, has now entered the ranks of the brands that industrial producers also consider first in their new-investment, capacity-expansion or plant-modernization projects.

The Lineer Zinc Smelting Plant — which will produce 30,000 tonnes of ingot zinc per year in the first stage and 90,000 tonnes per year when completed — has begun to be built on a 145-decare area in the Siirt Organized Industrial Zone with a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez.

In Turkey, where lead-zinc is not produced at full purity, until now the zinc obtained from raw material sent abroad as ore for zinc production was imported. With this unique zinc smelting plant in Turkey — whose foundation has been laid and which will become operational within a year — a high-standard production infrastructure has been achieved for the first time, and one more of our country's strategic investment goals has been realized.

Hakkari's Zinc Will Be Turned Into Ingots in Siirt

The zinc mineral to be supplied from mines in the South Anatolia and East Anatolia region up to Malatya — above all the Hakkari region, one of Turkey's main oxide-zinc mining areas — will be brought to Siirt for beneficiation and processing, and will be processed at the integrated plant and turned into zinc ingots. The plant will fundamentally have a production process based on the process (smelting) of separating the metal content in the ore from the rest of the ore with the help of a reduction reaction at high temperature. In addition, with the capacity increase of this plant, it is planned to build integrated facilities to produce new final products, above all zinc sulfate and zinc oxide. Furthermore, by-products consisting of valuable metals such as lead, cadmium, nickel and cobalt, on a concentrate basis of 5,000 tonnes/year, will also be produced and supplied to Turkish industry.

MEKA Is the Choice for the Crushing, Feeding, Screening and Conveyor Equipment of the Lineer Zinc Smelting Plant

MEKA, which has undertaken successful projects worldwide, is proud to take part in this important project of Turkey. The MEKA R&D team, made up of engineers experienced in their fields, is specially designing the mineral processing plant in line with Lineer's needs. Without compromising on quality, MEKA is a first-choice supplier in many important projects around the world with its rational designs and its services that continue after commissioning.

MEKA equipment will be used in the plant for the various types and capacities of vibrating and apron feeders and crushers, the heavy-duty and inclined screens, and the conveyor systems to be used for material transfer at the plant. The zinc-lead ore, extracted from the mine at a size of approximately 800 mm, is crushed to a size of 0–10 mm at the plant designed by MEKA and stockpiled in product silos to be fed to the grinding circuit.

Taking into account the properties of the run-of-mine material, feeding is done with an apron feeder, jaw crushers are used for primary crushing, and cone crushers for secondary and tertiary crushing.

The plant also has screens selected by taking into account the properties of the ore, and 11 belt conveyors reaching lengths of 48 metres.
