THE 1250-YEAR-OLD CITY OF BAGHDAD IS BEING REBUILT
Iraq, whose post-war reconstruction is rapidly continuing, is rebuilding its 1250-year-old capital.
In this context, Bismayah City — one of the largest projects not only of Iraq but of the Middle East — with a size of 100,000 housing units and a value of $7.25 billion, will be one of the new centres of attraction in the region. In this project, which is extremely important for Iraq, MEKA's MB-120W Stationary Concrete Batching Plant with a capacity of 120 m³ will also be working.
The Iraqi government reached an agreement with Hanwha, one of South Korea's largest construction companies, for the Bismayah City project. According to the signed agreement, Hanwha E&C will build 20,000 housing units each year, making 100,000 units in total. This project is the largest construction project that South Korean companies have taken abroad and the most recent of the projects the Hanwha group has carried out in the Middle East region. With this project, Hanwha E&C, one of the Hanwha group companies, is entering the ranks of the world's 100 largest construction companies. Hanwha E&C, which last April won the tender to build a desalination and power-generation plant in the Yanbu region with a $1.05 billion project signed with Saudi Marafiq, undertakes to complete this project as well by 2014.
To Be Completed in 84 Months
In the new residential area to be built in the Bismayah region, 25 km from Iraq's capital Baghdad, a total of 100,000 housing units will be built, consisting of 1670 blocks of 10 storeys each. The project, including site preparations, will take a total of 84 months. For the Baghdad project, which will be built over an area of approximately 20 million square metres, the supply of construction materials will largely be made from Turkey, due to its proximity to the project, the experience of Turkish supplier companies in the Iraqi market, and the fact that the construction materials produced in Turkey are of higher quality and more affordable than those of other countries.
In this framework, Meka — which has more than 130 concrete batching plants in the Iraqi market — has become Hanwha's preferred and reliable solution partner for this project with the local solutions it brings in after-sales services.
