The first concrete pavement for airport use was constructed during 1927 and 1928 at the Ford Terminal in Dearborn, Michigan. Since then, concrete pavements have been widely used for constructing runways, taxiways, and apron areas at airports. The design and construction procedures used for airport pavements evolved through experience, practice, field trials, and application of theoretical considerations. Concrete pavements have a long and successful history of use at civilian airports and at military airfieldsin. The runways is the most important aspect of an international airport. It’s the first to safely greet an international traveller under the full range of adverse weather conditions and it’s the last to bid a safe farewell to our visitors. It works under sun, rain, heat and frost and it constantly supports the repetitive impact of a 500 tonne A380 aircraft.
At the intersection of Asia, Europe and the Middle East, the main center, 150 million / year capacity of the world's largest and most modern Istanbul airport project project has been been opened to operation on October 29, 2018. Istanbul Airport, strengthens Turkey's strategic position, can serve aircraft such as Airbus A380 and Boing 737-800 from today's largest aircraft. Approximately 19 take-off and landing per runway. MEKA proud of the being part of this important project. 7 MEKA Concrete Batching Plants successfully met the concrete requirement of Istanbul 3rd Airport project. Operations from Atatürk Airport to the newly built Istanbul Airport has started being transferred. During the transfer period Istanbul Airport and Atatürk Airport will only be available for base carriers’ flights and both airports will be operating.
Concrete used for pavement must be durable to resist the effects of climate and have a flexural strength high enough to support expected aircraft loads Therefore in this important project, 7 MEKA Concrete Plants (1,250 m3 Apron pavement, 5,450 m3 structural), 6,700 m3 concrete were poured into two high capacity 2x250 m³ / h party facilities with a total capacity exceeding 1,265 m³ / hour. Three 3x135 m³ / h blend plants for two 5.0 m³ mixers, two 2x180 m³ / h and special Apron Concrete have worked at maximum potential and completed the project on time. These machines were specially designed for airfield concrete applications with exceptional MEKA craftsmanship and are equipped with independent aggregate weighing bins, PLC add-on modules to increase weighing accuracy and powerful 5.0 mixers. MEKA once again proved its superiority and continues to work on Research&Development.
Concrete is a manufactured product, the quality and uniformity of which depend upon the control exercised over its manufacture. The plant needs to be in good condition, operate reliably, and produce acceptable concrete uniformly from batch to batch. Concrete quality and uniformity are greatly affected by aggregate segregation and a varying moisture content of the aggregates. The batch plant and equipment is generally specified to meet Standard Specification for aviation standards Ready-Mixed Concrete. The quality of concrete is usually defined in terms of workability, strength, and durability Concrete is frequently chosen for the terminal aircraft standing areas and taxiways as the heavy wheels of slow moving international airplanes demand a tough concrete pavement that is aviation fuel resistant. The apron and structural concrete produced by Meka concrete batching plants are preferred in Istanbul airport project because they meet the above conditions, aviation specifications and requirements.
The airport runways built with high strength ready-mixed concrete produced by MEKA concrete batching plants have a long service life of forty years,, a competitive initial cost and have the lowest cost of maintenance during their life making them the most commercially attractive option. Concrete produced by MEKA concrete batching plants are gentle on the environment with the local cement and concrete industry maintaining high standards of control in production, energy consumption and waste and when the pavement has finally come to the end of its life it is able to be completely recycled into a new pavement.
MEKA products has proven its high performance, durability and efficiency as being the first choice of the world's leading construction and ready-mix companies for their many different projects.
